Acumen, an exhibition of new works by Sevan Melikyan, Jeff Mueller, and Shawn Wallis, will be on display June 20-August 15 at William Campbell Contemporary Art. An opening reception will be held June 20, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Acumen features art by three artists interested in reducing formal and contextual elements to their purest states. Whether abstract or representational, the works are process-driven, shrewd examinations of the subject matter. Mueller monumentalizes commonplace graffiti by placing it in a different context, focusing largely on the colors and lines inherent in the letters...(Read More)

In a combination of styles reminiscent of the fantastical works of Hieronymus Bosch and the automatic paintings of Joan Miro, Sirajski creates complicated depictions which require close scrutiny... Waxy Buildup:
Cleaning House

May 8 – June 20, 2009
Art in the Metroplex

Trayc Claybrook and Deanna Wood put together a show using the encaustic technique, which incorporates wax and other media. The other elements, images, and text represent new lessons learned and ways of “being”. Wood latched onto the stereotypical 50’s housewife- happy to not only serve her family and clean her house but look beautiful to boot... (Read More)

Jill Johnson, Loli Kantor, and Tom Pennington document the core of who they are in a soul-baring exhibit far from their usual photojournalism.

Loli Kantor has selected from her series, What Was Was, a chronicle of post-Holocaust towns in Poland and Ukraine. Sharing in their daily life and in the celebration of Jewish rituals, Kantor records the struggle between tradition and modernity in a stricured...(Read More)
